The origins of a passion
I love to call this bottle the "prehistory" of the Monti company, when my grandfather Monti Brunetto made wine from his own grapes for the family, to give it as a gift to relatives and friends and to sell it in bulk.
However, it is in 1969 that the first Montepulciano d'Abruzzo bottled in Controguerra was born. Yes, I say this with pride, the first bottle of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo produced in Controguerra, came from our cellar in our basement.
On invitation of a relative of ours who had a resale of Italian products in Cologne, all the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo of the 1969 vintage was sent to Germany. It ended very soon and, when a few months later from Cologne arrived a satisfied telephone call asking for more wine to be sent to Germany, the answer of my father Elio and my uncle Antonio was the following: "We’d be glad to, but... the next harvest! We run out of wine!". Thus the company Monti was born.
